Montana 2017- Saturday
So the rest of the story as Paul Harvey would say. After lunch on antelope stalk was 125 yrds from herd ..went to nock arrow and half of my rest was gone. Yes broken and gone who knows where. Trip to town and a few phone calls later and located bow shop at Yellowstone Gifts and Sports in Livingston MT. Their bow tech Sid was super helpful in selection, installation, and tuning my new QAD drop away and hopefully mark Howell bomb proof rest. Huge sigh of relief when the job was done and even made it back to big timber for one final stalk in the fading light. Sid may not see this but he was an answer to a ferverent prayer for help. God works in mysterious ways and miracles do happen every day. Whew ..saved my hunt for sure today and tomorrow and going forward. Thank you SID!!
Then came home to a home cooked meal by Stephinie and Aunt Ann. Chicken, baked potatoes, roasted squash, salad, and chocolate chip cookies and chocolate ice cream. LIFE IS GOOD!!!😊😊😊Thanks ladies ..you rock. Fuel for the hunt.
Montana 2017- Saturday
Day started out cold 32 with snow and rain till about 10:30. Yes we still hunted..brrrr chasing antelope. Hunted north of Columbus MT on a walk in access property (14,000 acres)= lots of driving and walking/ stalking. Spotted 11 different herds of antelope made 7 unsecessful stalks but saw a lot of animals relatively close ..ie 200 yards or so. Andrew 1st stalk put him 100 yards from 2 antelope bucks but getting that last 30 yards he got busted. Also had a stalk on a nice 3x4 mule deer ..got to 125 yards the bedded does busted us.
After a quick bite of lunch midday we hunted a ranch near big timber. 2 herds of antelope ..one had 29 in it other had 17. Andrew had brief encounter at 50yrds w one herd buck but it busted him drawing bow. All in all a great day. Snow on the peaks north of town is beautiful. More to come tomorrow!

Montana Final preparations
Thanks for checking out the NC Bow Hunter Outdoors blog of the 2017 Montana hunt. My cousin Andrew , his girlfriend Stephanie, my Uncle Wes and his wife Ann and I head out early on Friday . Andrew and I hope to get in an evening hunt if we can get squared away in MT fairly quickly. Bags and Bow cases are ready to roll and final practice session after work today was spot on at 70 yards so think we are good to go. More to come soon ..I hope . 🐐🐐 speed goats beware if I can find them in the snow ..brrr cold for a NC boy. Tags in my pocket are burning a hole in it.

Montana 2016
Enjoying the hunting in Deer Lodge MT. Beautiful country and deer are plentiful but haven't gotten close enough to connect with the bow yet.Thunderstorms ended the hunt early yesterday but still had several encounters with doe whitetails at close range but decided to pass in hopes of the big one coming by.
Downtown deer lodge at night. Found a great dinner spot at the broken arrow steak house. Across street the old Deer Lodge hotel.
Back on the hunt ..a little cool and rainy today bit the plans coming together! Thanks for following along.

A Rainbow of a day!!!!
Antelope hunting in Big Timber Mt in the morning. Had a great time this morning. Had multiple encounters with antelope. Just none close enough for a bow range shot. Had one gets of approximately 20 at 125 yards for over 30 minutes. The decoy definitely worked today. Closest encounter was a herd doe at 90 yards but with wind blowing 25 to 30 mph would have been a very difficult shot. Had a great time hunting a new piece of land that holds a lot of antelope potential.
Finished morning hunt and midday traveled to deer lodge MT to check out the hunting opportunity at the MT prison ranch hunt area. Very successful evening hunt saw 80 deer in the area of field I hunted. Had one whitetail doe at 30 yards but passed on her because the 10 pointer was at 147 yards. Had some rain and windy conditions to contend with as well the evening. And had another rainbow grace my eyes during the hunt. Hopefully all these rainbow's lead to a pot of hunter gold this week. We'll see.
Finished the day with a huge burger from the broken arrow steak house, bar & casino in Deer Lodge. Best burger ever...not on the menu..I saw another patron having one and asked if I could have the same..the chef/ cook fixed me up. Football, beer, and a huge burger...wow
More to come tomorrow I hope !!!
